Super Bomberman R update brings classic Konami characters

Super Bomberman R was one of the launch titles for the Nintendo Switch, bringing the series’ staple competitive bombing into the next-gen era. Although the title only received average review scores, it sold well and has clearly garnered a player base, and now publisher Konami has announced the first pack of post-launch content, featuring extra modes and maps, as well as a few familiar faces.

The big gameplay addition is Team Battles, allowing players to band together and duke it out against other teams. Four new maps have been added to blast your way through, each with unique features that change the strategies used for each. One has a load of conveyor belts, another has an open space in the centre with no cover, for example. The most interesting addition is three new playable characters drawing on Konami’s past, including Simon Belmont Bomber from Castlevania, Vic Viper Bomber from the Gradius series, and Pyramid Head Bomber from Silent Hill 2. This raises speculation as to what other Konami characters could make an appearance in the future.

All of the content is available now via update 1.4, and characters and maps can be unlocked through the in-game shop with in-game credits. Super Bomberman R is available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
