Guys. Guys. Guys. That, thing, I’ve been whinging about, since Titanfall 2 launched? It’s coming. It’s totally coming. The game’s free Operation Frontier Shield update, dropping 25 July on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, features the four-player co-op Frontier Defense mode, plus some other stuff, but guuuuuys, Frontier Defense.
Much like it was in the first game, Frontier Defense has you and your squad going up against five waves of increasingly difficult enemy deployments, while protecting a Harvester. You earn cash for kills, which you can spend on upgrades like traps and sentry guns, and Respawn is promising “new, challenging” enemy types. Please no Nuke Titans.
The mode will be available on five maps at launch – including Homestead, Forwardbase Kodai, War Games, Blackwater Canal, and a new map called Rise, described as an “abandoned desert reservoir” – and more maps will be supported sometime in the future.
Besides Rise, the update also adds a new Live Fire map called Township, and some new premium cosmetic thingies. But mostly Frontier Defense.
For those of you who don’t have Titanfall 2 for whatever entirely untenable reason, Respawn is also a hosting a free weekend 28-30 July, with access to the game’s training level, “The Beacon” campaign mission, and all multiplayer modes. Get in.
