Netflix premiered its first proper Stranger Things season two trailer at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, featuring a whole lot of 80s retro-nostalgia and a whole lot of new trouble for the town of Hawkins, Indiana. Get hype.
As previously revealed in its Superbowl trailer debut and a subsequent, very ominous teaser, the next season of Stranger Things is set around Halloween 1984, sometime after the events of the first season. “Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down,” the synopsis explains, “but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.”
… It’s not Barb. Actor David Harbour, who plays police chief Jim Hopper in the show, confirmed during a panel talk at SDCC that Barb won’t be back this time, but promised she would “be avenged”.
The second season sees the return of most of the original cast, including Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, and Millie Bobby Brown as the next generation Losers’ Club, with Winona Ryder and David Harbour as the town’s only responsible adults, and introduces Sean Astin and Paul Reiser as new characters. It’s out on Neflix on 27 October.
