So, this is how Star Wars Battlefront 2’s class system works

Between a million movies, comics, novels, TV shows, video games, and the Christmas special that everybody pretends doesn’t exist, the Star Wars franchise spans a period of about 70 years or so, and things can get sort of complicated in a game like Star Wars Battlefront 2, which includes every era on that timeline. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away? No. Not then. An even longer time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Nuh-uh, not that long ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Look, you can tell by the helmets.

How exactly the game was going to manage multiple eras with its class system while maintaining some kind of consistency has been a matter of speculation until now, but a recent update on the PlayStation Blog explains everything.

Battlefront 2‘s four classes – Assault, Specialist, Officer, and Heavy Trooper – will apparently have the same abilities and weapon types between eras, with only cosmetic differences. So, depending on your faction and a map’s place on the Star Wars timeline, your Heavy Trooper might look like this:

Or maybe something else entirely, like an ewok with a pot on its head. I dunno, they’ve only got those two images.
