Have you ever read Ken Follet’s The Pillars of the Earth? It came out in the ’80s, so you’ve had plenty of time. It’s genuinely an incredible book, one that spans several decades and follows multiple characters in a story centred on the construction of a 12th century English cathedral in a fictional city. It’s also got all the murder, sex, intrigue, and moustache-twirling villainy of Game of Thrones. If you’re not into reading, that’s okay, because there’s a video game adaptation out now.

The Pillars of the Earth was developed by Daedalic Entertainment. Their take on the epic involved adapting 1,200 pages into a multi-part interactive adventure game. Think more along the lines of Telltale, not LucasArts. The game will release episodically, with the first episode available now and another two to come. You’ll guide the three main characters through choices and their consequences, which could even deviate from events in the book. Also, the art style is simply gorgeous.

Ken Follet’s The Pillars of the Earth is available on PC, PS4 and XBO.
