Without question, Overwatch may be one of the finest competitive multiplayer games of recent years. It also helps that it is continuously growing, adding new maps, modes, and heroes every few months. The next piece of explosive content is the upcoming Junkertown map, an escort mission taking players to Roadhog and Junkrat’s old stomping grounds.
Junkertown is a Mad Max-style settlement in the post-apocalyptic Australian Outback, ruled by The Queen. The design is reflective of Roadhog and Junkrat, with spikes and sawblades on every flat surface, mechs spewing smoke, and makeshift vehicles parked in garages. As an Escort map, players will need to move a payload of gold and treasures rigged with explosives to a target zone.
But why are you trying to blow shiny things into the stratosphere? Well, it’s all part of an anti-heist revenge plot cooked up by Junkrat, who is rather annoyed that he and his buddy have been kicked out of Junkertown. They’re out to take the Queen for exiling them, and hopefully blow stuff up in the process. The story is all revealed in the trailer below, called “The Plan”, which potentially shows off some new masks and skins too. Watch it, and wish for a full-length Overwatch movie.
There’s no word about when Junkertown will be playable, but it will be free like all of Overwatch‘s major post-launch content. And with all this mention of Junkertown’s Queen, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her as a playable character in the future.
