Having decided that breaking up with Disney and losing his premium ad cash bonuses from YouTube over some very questionable Nazi jokes wasn’t enough trouble for one year, internet gaming celebrity Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg completed his trifecta of stupid over the weekend, dropping a racist insult in the middle of a livestream and then explaining that he didn’t mean it like that so it’s okay, okay?
In this livestream video of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, PewDiePie kills an opponent, describing him as a “fucking nigger” and a “fucking asshole” before realising what he’s just said on a livestream video and quickly adds that “I don’t mean that in a bad way”. No, obviously he meant it in the other, totally not bad way. Like calling a random stranger a “fucking asshole” can also mean “you’re a super rad person let’s be bffs 4 ever lol”. Everybody knows that.
NFSW warning: racism and swears and PewDiePie.

While the internet’s anti-common decency police inevitably made lame excuses for him, others weren’t exactly convinced about a b-b-b-b-but “heated gaming moment”.
“I am sick of this child getting more and more chances to make money off of what we make,” Firewatch developer Sean Vanaman argued in a series of tweets. “He’s worse than a closeted racist: he’s a propagator of despicable garbage that does real damage to the culture around this industry.” His studio Campo Santo has since filed a DMCA takedown notice on PewDiePie’s playthrough of its game, and the video is now unavailable. So that’s a start.
