Rain-slick neon and ramen and cigarettes and existential crises and awkward questions about recipe-ready tortoise prep. That’s the Blade Runner I know, and the basis for every other cyberpunk aesthetic since 1982, but the first clip from the sequel is something else entirely and now I don’t know what to think and is this what it means to be human?
Courtesy of Deadline, this new footage reveals a post-apocalyptic dump and it’s not even raining. Most intriguing. According to the film’s synopsis, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling) “unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos”, which I assume has something to do with co-star Jared Leto’s method acting. Or maybe not.
Blade Runner 2049‘s cast also features Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista, and the movie opens in October.
