The Pokémon games are known for many things, such as pre-teen protagonists, hordes of new pocket monsters, and oddly themed criminal organisations. What they are less known for are dramatic storyline trailers. The latest video for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is dark, apocalyptic, and dramatic, AND quite a departure for the light-hearted series.
In case you haven’t been following the sprawling series, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the continuations of 2016’s main entries Sun and Moon. I’ll confess, I own a copy of Moon, but I haven’t played it yet and can’t give a proper re-telling of the backstory. Sorry, I’m still doing a Nuzlocke Run in Pokémon X, you know how it is. Anyway, the world comes under threat in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon from a Pokémon called Necrozma, who is looking to steal its light. Players will need to stop this Legendary Pokémon by training their own team.
The games shouldn’t be considered sequels, but rather expansions of Sun and Moon. According to the game’s website, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will bring new challenges, battles, moves, structures, and storylines, effectively broadening the scope and gameplay of those titles. Another big addition is the ability to travel through wormholes to reach different dimensions, some which allow other Legendary Pokémon from previous games to be caught. Reading about its features is all a bit confusing if you’re not up to date with the series, but the bottom line is that these will be the best ways to play this generation of Pokémon.
PokémonUltra Sun and Ultra Moon launch for the 3DS family of systems on 17 November.
