Despite ex-EA COO Peter Moore promising us back in 2014 that it would never happen, today it is happening – a game is being removed from the EA Access game library for the first time. Okay, it’s only FIFA 14, but that’s not the point. The point is that they promised and now I don’t know who I can trust anymore.
The official company stance in 2014 was that once a game goes into the Vault it stays there. While I can’t imagine that too many people will be terribly distraught about the loss of a football game from four years ago, it marks a pretty significant backtracking on the original promise. Apparently it’s not going to be a routine thing going forward, but is due to “unique circumstance specific to the title”.
We’re all accustomed to content coming and going when it comes to services like Netflix and Showmax, but it will be a serious burn to the appeal of EA Access if this sort of thing becomes the norm. The difference here is that if you’ve already downloaded FIFA 14 you will still be able to play it after it has been removed from the vault, so it’s not all bad news.
