Nintendo Switch update includes video capture and save transfers

Your beloved Nintendo Switch can now do a few more tricks, thanks to the latest update which brings the handheld hybrid up to version 4.0.0. When I say “tricks”, what I mean is “things that should really have been possible in the first place”. Headlining the update is the ability to now capture video and also transfer user and save data from one Switch console to another.

Video capture is as simple as holding down the Capture button (as opposed to the single press for a screenshot), which saves the last 30 seconds of gameplay and sends it to your album. From here you can trim it, and if your footage is super amazing you can share it straight to Facebook and Twitter. It’s worth noting that right now this only works with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Splatoon 2.

Transferring user data and save data is a one-way affair – once you’ve sent your data to the target Switch, it is no longer available on the original console. You need to make sure that both consoles have been updated to version 4.0.0, that there’s enough storage space on the new console, and that you have a user slot available on the target Switch too.

The rest of the change log includes Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild user icons, news channel updates and a few other tweaks. Have a look at the full details over at the official Nintendo support page.
