There’s a new four-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game in the works

I spent the better part of a small fortune on the original four-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game in the arcades in my youth (yes, I’m that old), and it looks like I might have to do it all over again. Arcade veterans Raw Thrills have confirmed that there’s a TMNT arcade revival on the way, so get your coins and your memberberries ready.

The four-player revival is going to be shown off at this year’s IAAPA trade show, happening later this year in Orlando, Florida. “This new version of TMNT is a completely new re-imagining of the brawler concept,” Raw Thrills told Arcade Heroes recently. “There are more moves, more environmental interaction, cool Turtle Power special attacks, voiceover from the entire cast (including Seth Green and others)… it’s really amazing.”

Along with games like the original NBA Jam and WWF Wrestlefest, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rocked arcades with simultaneous four-player gameplay, and pretty much absorbed every 20c coin I could muster. Arcades are a rarity in South Africa these days, but let’s hope this re-envisioned classic makes it way over to our shores sometime soon. Cowabunga, and all that.

Oh, and can anyone else remember the great “Ninja Turtles are tools of Satan” crisis? Those were special times indeed.
