We don’t usually cover sales figures as such, but I think this demands attention – after just a month on the shelves, Bungie’s highly regarded Destiny 2 is now officially the biggest selling game of 2017 so far. Granted, that headline-grabbing achievement is based on NPD figures for the US, but it’s still really impressive and is surely indicative of trends for other markets too.
That’s quite something, in a year that has included the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and… hang on, what else? Come to think of it, not a whole lot. Mass Effect: Andromeda should have been a contender but then surprised us by being a bit shit, and other than that the year has been something of a non-event. Still, Bungie will be well happy, and Activision will be smiling from ear to ear.
It will be interesting to see whether Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Call of Duty: WW2, or Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will have what it takes to snatch the 2017 crown from Destiny 2 as we head into the madness of the holiday season.
