PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds gets Xbox One preview and PC not-preview launch dates

Just in time for the holidays, the frying pan murder sim is coming to Xbox One’s Game Preview program next month, with a full PC launch expected sometime in “late December”, developer PUBG Corp has confirmed. Who gets the last bit of trifle? Winner decides, and it works even if everybody hates trifle.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will start its early access phase on Xbox One on 12 December, with some exclusive, sold separately DLC including the PUBG Warrior Pack, the PUBG Accessory Pack, and the PUBG Tracksuit Pack.

“These packs are exclusive to Xbox fans as standalone offers available for a limited time and as there are no plans to feature any in-game purchases in the Xbox Game Preview version, are the only items that can be purchased during the preview period,” explains PUBG Corp boss Chang Han Kim in the press stuff. “We’re super excited to be able to bring these to Xbox One fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game as a special thank you for your patience and passion for PUBG. We’ll be sharing more details on timing and pricing in the weeks ahead.”

A “special thank you” that costs me more money? You shouldn’t have.

The studio is also prepping to launch version 1.0 of the game on PC closer to the new year, so if you’re choosing between the two, there will probably be some significant differences for now.

“Both versions are being developed at the same time, but they both have their own separate roadmaps,” adds Kim. “Various Xbox One features and functionality will change and come online over time just like they have on PC, with our goal being to have both versions align to each other as soon as possible.”

In the meantime, there’s Fortnite’s Battle Royale. Or not.
