After a testing period for Xbox Insider program members, Microsoft has announced that the game gifting feature for Xbox One is now live for the general. See, “in time for the holiday season,” just like Tarryn predicted.

Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb tweeted a brief video showing the function in action. If you’re feeling generous, all you have to do is hit the “Buy as gift” button on the Microsoft Store, fill in the lucky recipients email address, and a shiny new download code will show up in their inbox.

Besides popping full games into your friends’ virtual christmas stockings, Xbox One users will also be able to send downloadable content as well as Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. Perfect for Christmas, and you don’t have to leave your couch.

There are limitations, however. If you read Hryb’s tweet carefully you’ll see it specifies “select” content, so this feature isn’t available right across the board just yet. Also it’s worth noting that gifts can only be sent and redeemed within the same region. But other than that, this news really jingles my bells.
