Marvel Heroes defeated by the villainous forces of late-stage capitalism

After a period of suspicious inactivity on the part of the developer and community managers, the free-to-play RPG Marvel Heroes has been shut down by Disney. The publisher has announced that it has cut of all relations with Gazillion Entertainment, so if you’re one of the many who have been enjoying the game this will surely make your heart a bit thor [… I’ll allow it. – Ed].

“We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down,” said Disney in an email to Kotaku.”We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.”

Things had clearly been a bit off at Gazillion Entertainment for some time, with a number of layoffs happening within a year of the game’s release, according to former and current studio employees. When expected updates and special events didn’t arrive over the past month, players started to see the writing on the wall.

So, that’s that then. No more Heroes.
