Forza Horizon dev Playground Games has brought in some top talent to craft a new open-world RPG
There are big things happening over at Playground Games. The Forza Horizon developer announced earlier this year that there were plans for expansion in the works, and that seems to be happening at an escalating pace – they’ve secured a few new high-profile team members and secured 200-person office space for their new project, an unnamed open-world action RPG.
The top-flight addition to this new secondary Playground Games studio is ex-senior producer at Battlefront II developer EA DICE, Sean Eyestone. With over a decade of experience as an important part of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, having his expertise behind this mystery project is a real boon for Playground.
Eyestone joins chief designer Will Kennedy, who spent eight years at Rockstar North, and principal combat designer Juan Fernandez di Simon, ex-senior designer on Hellblade for Ninja Theory, according to a report from GamesIndustry.biz. The new team will be moving into a pretty sizeable new studio in 2018, bringing the Playground Games’ staff roster past the 400-person mark.
Forza Horizon is one of the most highly regarded racing franchises ever created, often considered superior to the base Forza franchise thanks to it being so much more fun to play (you know it’s true). With that in mind, I’m quite looking forward to what this second team can put together in a totally different genre.
