Brendan Greene says they’re aiming for 60fps when PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds hits Xbox One X

PC people often bemoan PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for being a resource hog, probably because it’s badly optimised for the x86 kernel architecture. Or something. That’s PC master-race talk, so it goes way over my head. But I was pleasantly surprised to hear that, despite the game’s power-hungry nature, Bluehole is shooting for 60fps when the game launches on Xbox One X.

“Definitely on Xbox One X, 60fps,” said Brendan Greene in a GamesTM interview. “On Xbox One, we’re not sure. We may have to limit it at 30fps, maybe, but the last time I saw it, it was running at about 30 to 40. We’re still constantly improving it so, you know, the aim is to get to 60.”

Let’s keep in mind that the vanilla Xbox One struggles to run anything at 60fps, so let’s temper our enthusiasm, shall we? And I’m Xbox-4-Lyf, yo, so I can say that.

We’ve got just about two weeks to go until one of the most talked-about games of the year shows up on console for the first time. It’s quite a big deal for Microsoft, who will be banking on PUBG driving sales of the Xbox One console family so that they can have food on the table come Christmas morning.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is definitely high on my Christmas wish list, but will it be enough to lure people in Xbox’s direction when choosing a new console? Ponder with me in the comments below, won’t you?
