You’re welcome to disagree, but you know it’s true: Margot Robbie’s incarnation of Harley Quinn was the best thing about Suicide Squad. The only problem, if you ask me, was that she wasn’t given enough time to really unwrap the character. Which is why the news that Robbie has a Harley Quinn spinoff in the works should be music to your ears.
Speaking to MTV recently, Robbie made it clear that she knows people want to see more of her Quinn. “I mean it’s hard to kinda talk about it because all this stuff is under lock and key, but yeah I’ve been working on a separate spin-off for Harley for a while now,” she said. “Honestly, I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to be the next thing to happen, but I think everyone is keen to getting Harley back on screen so everyone is working on lots of different versions of what could be next.”
“I would like to see her with other women. I kept saying it when we were shooting Suicide Squad – she needs her girlfriends. She needs other girls around her cos she loves that,” Robbie continues, referring to how she feels the Harley Quinn character should be developed, and probably not girl sleepovers and sexy pillow fights. “You see it in the comics. She loves meeting people – any people – but she needs a little girl gang.”
In other news, the Suicide Squad sequel should be going into production this year. I was quite keen for the first one, so I’ll make a point of not getting too interested in this one until it’s done. Fool me once, shame on Warner Bros. and DC. Fool me twice, shame on me.
