Nintendo’s debut smartphone game Miitomo will soon be no more
Remember Miitomo? Neither do I. Which is probably why Nintendo has decided to put it out of its misery, and from 9 May your days of dressing up your avatar and doing suitably cute Nintendo-like things will be over. Miitomo was Nintendo’s first foray into smartphone gaming (the term mobile gaming is hard to apply when it comes to Nintendo, as the company basically owns the idea of mobile gaming in the traditional sense), and it isn’t particularly interesting.
You never tried it? Have a look at the trailer above and see what you’ve been missing out on. It’s sort of a mash-up of Xbox avatars and social networking, I guess? With Nintendo’s trademark quirky style (translation: funny looking little men and women with weird facial features), Miimoto is perfect fodder for the hordes of fans who devour anything the gaming powerhouse churns out.
It’s been out since March 2016, so Miimoto has had a good innings, but interest has clearly waned to a point now where it just doesn’t make sense to carry on. If you’re somehow still playing around with it, Nintendo will be giving active gamers 2000 coins and five game tickets a day until it goes offline for good in a couple of months.
