Popular platformer Spyro the Dragon is (possibly) coming to PS4 this year in the form of a remastered trilogy featuring the first three games in the series. Sources who seem to know what’s cracking in the Dragon Kingdom say that the remastered Spyro trilogy is set to be officially announced in March, with a proposed Q3 2018 release window.

The bundle will include Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage!, and Year of the Dragon, but sharpened up with new animations, cutscenes, lighting, animations and a remastered soundtrack, and will offer PS4 Pro support too. According to the original Kotaku report, the remaster is being handled by Vicarious Visions, the team who put together the remastered Crash Bandicoot trilogy last year. This bodes well for the purple dragon’s chances out in the wild, as the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy was quite a hit.

The word on the street is that the Spyro trilogy will eventually make its way to other consoles too, once its one-year exclusivity deal expires, but we’ll have to wait until that supposed March announcement to see if all or any of this is true. I’ve never touched the franchise myself, so I thought Spyro was about an angry Greek restaurant owner, but perhaps I’ll take a look when it comes out looking all shiny on the latest hardware.
