Barbie used to be a blonde bombshell with a bust:waist ratio that made physiologists weep. Now she she has an axe and a look of fortified determination in her eye. It’s Tomb Raider Barbie, created by toy maker Mattel, and she’s definitely a clear symbol of how the legendary doll has progressed over the decades.
Armed with the aforementioned axe, as well as a map, journal, doll stand and a Certificate of Authenticity, Mattel’s take on the legendary raider of tombs is based on Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft from the upcoming film reboot. That means she’s young, lean, and mean, as opposed to the cheesy Angelina Jolie version with the curves which didn’t really fit into the clothing provided.
Have a look at the official images which IGN secured exclusively in advance of T0mb Raider Barbie’s debut at the New York Toy Fair 2018, and you’ll agree that Ken should sleep with one eye open. Obviously I mean Ken from “Barbie & Ken’s Big Dream Holiday”, not Ken as in “Ryu & Ken’s Bogus Adventure”, because that Ken would beat her senseless, surely. I’m not being sexist, it’s just that, you know, “Shoryuken!” and all that.
