Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter World has sold 7.5 million copies in the five weeks since it was launched on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, making it the top selling game ever for the Japanese developer/publisher. That means that despite some people saying it’s crap, the game has surpassed legendary titles like Street Fighter, Mega Man and Resident Evil.
This latest entry in the long running franchise is the first to really find traction in the Western market, while the Monster Hunter name has been moving big numbers in Japan for years. The press has been loving it too, with the monster bashing RPG is sitting pretty with a Metacritic rating of 90 on PS4 and 91 on Xbox One. Previous Monster Hunter titles have sold up to around the 5 million mark, so this this new milestone is definitely something worth celebrating for Capcom.
And this doesn’t even factor in the PC version which is yet to be released, so that total figure is set to rise somewhat later this year.
