The debut trailer for Way to the Woods has arrived and it could be the deer simulator you didn’t know you wanted

Way to the Woods may not be on your game radar yet, but it should be. Developed by Anthony Tan, the third-person (or third-deer?) adventure has been in development for around three years, but this is the first time we’ve been given a proper look at it in motion.

With a look and feel inspired by Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, The Last of Us and other artists, according to Tan, the story follows a deer and her fawn who are trying to find their way home. Developed in Unreal Engine 4, Way to the Woods has a delightful hand-painted aesthetic, with sweeping landscapes and moody shadows. There are evil dogs, glowing fish, talking cats, and other weirdness, and it all looks rather sad, really. But sad in a good way. Like a 3ds Max version of Bambi.

The developer secured a publishing deal for Way to the Woods back in 2016 with Team17, and is aiming for a 2019 release.
