Félix “xQc” Lengyel, one of the most renowned players in the Overwatch League, has had his Dallas Fuel pro contract cut short due to offensive behaviour. This comes not even two months after Lengyel was suspended for homophobic insults made regarding an openly gay opponent, Austin “Muma” Wilmot. Looks to me like the guy can’t keep himself from being a miserable little punk.
“There are few players out there who have achieved as much success in as short a time as Félix has in competitive Overwatch,” said Dallas Fuel owner, Mike Rufail, in a press statement according to Polygon. “Ultimately, it was in the best interest of our organization and Félix to part ways before the expiration of his contract. No one wants to see Félix succeed more than we do, and we believe he has a bright future ahead of him. I want to thank him for his time and the passion he brought to the Dallas Fuel.”
The issue this time seems to stem from posts and remarks made by Lengyal on social media and his own streams – in particular, spamming a specific emote with overt racist associations during streams featuring black people. The TriHard emote, connected to streamer TriHex, didn’t start out with racist connotations, but hey, you know the internet, we shouldn’t be allowed to have nice things.
Lengyel has an excuse though… he is ” literally a walking Twitch chat”, you see?
“The fallout of it was preventable, dude,” Lengyel said in one of his streams, addressing the racially charged emote issue. “I just simply wish that at some point, someone simply said, ‘Look dude … I don’t know man, these [Trihard] emotes you always post in chat, it’s gotta stop man.’ Like I wish someone just said something, man. I was fucking born and raised by Twitch chat, dude. I’m literally a walking Twitch chat — and it’s fixable.”
And I’m instantly reminded of everything that is wrong with online culture. He wants to pretend that he didn’t know he was being offensive by spamming the emote, but at the same time wants to let us all know that he lives and breathes Twitch chat, which means he understands everything that is toxic about it. I’m not buying it. And neither is the Dallas Fuel team, so he’s out on his ass, and rightly so. Dude.
