Red Faction Guerilla is being re-Mars-tered and you can blame THQ Nordic for that terrible pun

THQ Nordic has announced that 2009’s impressive but overlooked third-person shooter Red Faction Guerilla is being reworked for current gen consoles and PC, and will be adorned with the cringeworthy title Red Faction Guerilla Re-Mars-tered when it arrives later this year.

If 2009 sounds like the days before the dawn of time to you, perhaps it’s best I point out that the Red Faction franchise was set on Mars, hence the title. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t laugh, it’s not great.

Anyway, so, Red Faction Guerilla is making a comeback, in remastered form, thanks to THQ Nordic. There’s a whole chapter of gaming history regarding the fall of THQ, and the subsequent Phoenix-ism of the Nordic quasi-resurrection, but that’s a story for another day.

Right, so, Red Faction Guerilla Re-Mars-tered. It’s got a few tricks up it’s sleeve. Fully reworked texturing and graphic features, with all the buzz words that techy people use when they want to say “It’s prettier” – better shadow rendering and lighting, something to do with shaders, and 4k support for the fancy folk with fancy 4k hardware. THQ Nordic hasn’t specified which platforms will be getting the whole 4k thing, but you’d imagine it will be PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and PC.

The game will be here sometime during Q2 2018, which means any time from now to the end of June. I hope you enjoy red, earthy tones.
