Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has been kind enough to cater for PlayStation 4 Pro owners who haven’t plonked a massive pile of cash down for a fancy 4K television by implementing a performance mode of God of War, so everyone is a winner.
When asked via Twitter if one needs a PS4 Pro to get the most out of God of War, game director Cory Barlog took the opportunity to drop the news that while the game will be incredible in 4k, the PS4 Pro hardware will be put to use regardless of your television.
Nope, you don't have to, but if you do 4k is AMAZING, if you have a 4k TV, of course. If you don't, we have a performance mode that puts the extra power to good use and makes the game run so so smooth!

4K sets are still prohibitively expensive, so it makes sense to cater for the rest of the market too when enhancing games for the mid-generation consoles. In a follow-up tweet, Barlog explained that if you’re running the game in 1080 on a PS4 Pro, then the power usually routed to crank out the 4K excitement goes to make the game run smoother. He doesn’t commit to a frame rate though, which is interesting.
