Friends and family of battle royale players who are too busy looting ammo and vintage distressed jeans to take out the trash (literally and metaphorically), get ready to wait some more, and then some more. Game creator Brendan Greene estimates two decades, at least.
Talking to IGN at the Bafta Awards in London last night, Greene explained that “we want to do this for the next 20 years. We really want to build out a platform for game modes and possible esports. We’re committed to supporting this game for a long time.”
As research for my predictable joke that nobody plays the same game for 20 years, I looked up what games launched in 1998 – including Baldur’s Gate, StarCraft, Fallout 2, Half-Life, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. That joke has been cancelled. Even Turok 2 got a remaster recently, so it’s entirely possible that somebody’s playing that now. That’s the new joke.
