But it’s different because this time, it’s a board game. Which isn’t entirely unprecedented either, because there are already zillions of board game adaptations of video games – including The Witcher, Doom, Gears of War, XCOM, Portal, Assassin’s Creed, BioShock, Civilization, StarCraft, Resident Evil, even a card game based on Street Fighter, and that’s probably enough to make my point – so I suppose this one was inevitable.

Out now on Kickstarter, Last One Standing is more or less exactly what you expect, although – perhaps not surprisingly – it doesn’t support 100 players. Instead, up to eight players must choose from a selection of predefined characters, and “find themselves on an ever-shrinking map where they must shoot, move and loot to be the last one standing”. I couldn’t find a plastic chicken dinner miniature in any of the images, but it looks more like Fortnite anyway.

Developer Brendan McCaskell is asking for the intriguingly specific sum of $18,706 to fund the game, with $6,697 in the pledge-bank and 29 days left on the clock at publish time.
