New, improved, now with 100% more diversity Xbox Avatar Editor launches

If you’re signed up to the Xbox Insider program, anyway. Everybody else has to wait to reinvent their virtual selves with neon hair, futuristic prosthetics, and “almost eighty octillion” possible colour combos (omg).

That’s a billion billion billion for those of you keeping count at home, and according to Microsoft, the for-reals number of colour options available in the new Xbox Avatar Editor app beta, which is out tonight for members of the Alpha and Alpha – Skip Ahead Xbox Insider club. The revamped Avatar Editor also features an “unprecedented” level of customisation, including an entirely gender-neutral fashion catalogue so you’re not shut out of that totally killer glitterpunk ensemble because of stupid sociocultural expectations.

“Avatars will be a unique representation of your desired style, personality, creativity, and mood as you play on Xbox One,” explains Xbox Insider team lead Bradley Rossetti. “We’re starting things off with a selection of customizable appearance and closet items in each category. Additional accessories, props, moods, clothing, and appearance categories will be unlocked in the near future, and more content will regularly become available after launch.”

Microsoft hasn’t confirmed when exactly that’s going to be, but betas like this one are usually introduced to the public within three to six months or so.
