Ahead of the event’s launch this weekend, Activision has dropped a Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta trailer featuring lots of guns, explosions, and dead guys, plus a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpse of the game’s new battle royale mode, Blackout.
Going live on Friday, 3 August, the first of two multiplayer betas introduces six maps, multiple Specialists, and standard-issue Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Control, and Search & Destroy modes, with special VIP priority for PS4 players.
- PS4 (early access): 3 August at 19:00 local time – 6 August at 19:00 local time
- PS4 and Xbox One: 10 August at 19:00 local time – 13 August at 19:00 local time
- PC (early access): 10 August at 19:00 local time
- PC (public access): 11 August at 19:00 local time – 13 August at 19:00 local time
Access to the betas is limited to pre-orders from participating retailers (including BT Games, Takealot, Musica, CNA, Raru, Game4U, Loot, Makro, and MHC World), and the PC open beta is exclusively available for Battle.net users.
More info about the Blackout beta is coming soon, according to the studio, but “for now, we wanted you to know that it was on the way”. So, now you know. The new, if perhaps somewhat inevitable, mode apparently introduces the franchise’s biggest ever map, “1500 times bigger than Nuketown”, made up of “the most iconic parts of your favourite maps” from previous games.
