As expected because this is how things work now, BioWare’s not-Destiny will host a number of pre-launch betas and tech tests, including a “VIP” demo on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
If you’re an EA or Origin Access subscriber, or you’ve pre-ordered the game, anyway.
Described by lead producer Mike Gamble as a “slice of our game” during a panel talk at PAX West over the weekend, the demo is scheduled to drop from orbit on 1 February 2019, ahead of the game’s release on 22 February 2019.
Anthem is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi game for up to four players – or “Freelancers” – in a shared online world, featuring “a landscape of primeval beauty” crammed with “savage beasts and ruthless marauders” that you’ll presumably shoot at with laser guns for loot and stats. It’s also something of a precarious prospect for BioWare, since Mass Effect Andromeda bombed with most fans (but I liked it, don’t @ me) and subsequent DLC was cancelled or maybe not even planned.
