Red Dead Redemption 2 has a free companion app for those lonely nights on the prairie

Uh. Wait, no. It’s not that kind of companion app, but I guess you can call her Betsy-Mae and promise you’re going to get married some day with a pig farm of your own if you want to. I mean, I wasn’t going to, but you totally can.

Anyway, Rockstar has confirmed that a mobile companion app for iOS and Android devices will be launching in time for Red Dead Redemption 2 this Friday, featuring the game manual, an interactive map and waypoint management, access to protagonist Arthur Morgan’s journal, and real-time character stats, “allowing you to completely remove the in-game HUD from your television should you choose”.

And, you know, it’s something to do while you wait for the day one update to download, because there’s a day one update to download.

Red Dead Redemption 2 and its companion app will be available on 26 October.
