Obsidian is working on a new game with two of the original Fallout devs

It’s something about laser guns and, uh, skincare products? So that’s intriguing. Whatever it is, the Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity studio is apparently prepping to announce whatever it is at The Game Awards so we’ll find out next week. In the meantime, here’s what we know about it.

Fallout producer, lead programmer, and designer Tim Cain and artist and writer Leonard Boyarsky are involved in the project, presumably in similar roles. Since departing from Interplay in 1998, the guys co-founded Troika Games, perhaps best known for its cult-classic steampunk RPG Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. Cain subsequently joined Wildstar dev Carbine Studios, and Boyarsky was a lead designer on Diablo III and its Reaper of Souls expansion with Blizzard, before they took jobs with Obsidian.

A countdown timer on Obsidian’s website is teasing the new game with a “special message” from one of two different sponsors – Spacer’s Choice and Auntie Cleo’s.

The new game is being published by Take-Two’s Private Division label, so despite the company’s recent acquisition by Microsoft, this is probably not an Xbox One exclusive.

Tune in on 6 December for more, kids.

Don’t expect even some news, much less an actual launch of The Elder Scrolls VI for “years”, sorry
