Looking for more survival style options? That sassy moose giving you side-eye? The Long Dark, your favourite, post-aurorapocalypse, wolf-to-the-face simulator has you covered.
The Long Dark’s “Redux” patch is live and brings with it a host of updates across the board, most noticeably in the complete overhaul of Episode One and Two of the Wintermute story mode. So I guess bad luck if you were in the middle of that?
In case you were unaware, The Long Dark is a survival game set in the Canadian wilderness. After your plane is rudely grounded by a mystery, aurora-related event that causes all electrical equipment to become useless, you must seek out your fellow survivor, and lady-friend, while avoiding death by…well…everything. “All around you is your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies…”
Updates include, but are not limited to:
The story being fully voiced and animated and experienced in first-person. All cinematics have also been redone.
New plot points and locations being added to the existing story arc along with a general polish to the presentation of the narrative.
Side missions becoming optional so as not to interfere with the story’s flow. No more gathering 12 rabbit feet and 57 bushels of rose hips before Jeremiah will tell you where to find the damn bear.
A plethora of gameplay and interface improvements, too numerous to mention.
But, most importantly, in Survival mode, you can now craft a Rabbitskin Hat. So, go forth into the frigid snowscape, clad entirely in the fur of your enemies, to scour the land for a whetstone because there has to be one on this map, right? Right? What was that sound??
Get in on the oddly peaceful, yet anxiety-inducing, Long Dark action on Steam, Xbox One, and PS4. Episode Three, Four, and Five will be unlocked for free when they are released.
