In an effort to foster unity, Microsoft Studios has rebranded as Xbox Game Studios. This means that, no matter if you play on a console, PC, or mobile device, you are all one in Allfather Xbox’s eyes. According to Microsoft, Xbox has evolved beyond its console origins so they’ve expanded the definition of what Xbox means, which fits in quite snugly with Microsoft’s Project xCloud. Project xCloud is a game streaming service that will allow you to play together with any user on any device. The service begins public trials this year.
Xbox Games Studios is made up of 13 game development teams, namely 343 Industries, The Coalition, Compulsion Games, The Initiative, inXile Entertainment, Minecraft, Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment, Playground Games, Rare, Turn 10 Studios, Undead Labs and their Global Publishing group. This year, we should see the release of some exclusives such as Crackdown 3, Gears 5, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. There will also be content updates for Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon 4, and Minecraft.
It’s going to take a while before I start thinking of Xbox as anything other than something to do with an actual Xbox console, but then I don’t deal well with change. I also foresee some infuriating conversations based entirely on people clarifying what they mean by Xbox. What do you think?
