The original Crackdown is free now on Xbox One if you think collecting a million orbs is a fun time

With Crackdown 3 launching next week, Microsoft is dialling the Hype-O-Tron with a free copy of the first game on Xbox One. Released in 2007, Crackdown was one of the Xbox 360’s breakout megahits – but more than a decade on, it’s… maybe not exactly what you remember. Nostalgia is disingenuous like that. The backwards-compatible version on Xbox One has been somewhat optimised with one of those “enhanced” makeover for Xbox One X, but you can’t make up for tedious game design and bad dialogue. Don’t @ me.

But, you know, it’s free. So. Find out for yourself.

After multiple delays, Crackdown 3 is out on 15 February, and as one of Microsoft’s first-party games, it will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at the same time.
