Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aimé announces his retirement, names Bowser as the company’s next CEO

Oh. Wait, no. Not that Bowser. Doug Bowser, Nintendo’s current vice-president of sales. No relation, apparently, it’s just a zany coincidence. Maybe.

Doug Bowser Nintendo
Maybe not.

Fils-Aimé started at Nintendo’s US HQ as executive vice-president of sales and marketing in 2003, with a promotion to president and COO in May 2006. Now, with over 15 years of service on the clock, he’s exiting his office next month but will live on forever as a meme.

“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever,” Fils-Aime says in the press stuff. “It’s a part that is filled with gratitude – for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”
