REWIND THE WEEK: 4-8 February

This is REWIND THE WEEK – your one-stop go-to much-wow guide for what’s hot, what’s not, and what’s even going on this week, every week, until the end of the universe. Which could be tomorrow, so don’t be the guy who missed out.

Valve’s ambiguous content rules are back in the news with Rape Day, the “game where you can rape and murder during a zombie apocalypse”. The game was subsequently flushed down Steam’s toilet, slipping and slithering into the sewer with the other shit, to churn and coalesce on a clotted tide of toilet paper and vomit and medical waste into some sort of super-toxic mega-shit, and wash up somewhere else instead where you won’t see it, maybe, but you’ll probably smell it.

And on the subject of shit that keeps floating, BlackBerry is suing Twitter, claiming that the social media’s use of features like push notifications is “diverting” its sales, Google won’t remove an app that perpetuates the systematic oppression of women in Saudi Arabia, and THQ Nordic is still trying to make up for its controversial 8chan AMA.

So everything sucks, but it could be worse. Like being chased down by the unblinking eyes and pitiless choo-choos of madness, as this Resident Evil 2 Thomas the Tank Engine mod proves.

Resident Evil 2 Thomas the Tank Engine

But it could be even worse. Like, I dunno, being chased by a Jedi. But Fallout 2 and Planescape: Torment designer Chris Avellone is working on Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, so we’ve got a new hope (sorry, not sorry) that the gross hypocrisy of those wicked child-abducting nazi space wizards will be exposed.
