Celebrate the 40th anniversary of Alien with six new short films that’ll make you forget about Prometheus

It’s been 40 years since we were introduced to the nightmare-fuel that is Ridley-Scott’s Alien and 20th Century Fox is celebrating the anniversary, and expanding the universe, with six new short films by up-and-coming creators.

The films were created in partnership with Tongal, a community that links up networks, studios, and brands with independent writers, directors, and animators. Basically, you post a project and let the crowd pitch their best ideas. The Alien 40th Anniversary Project received 550 submissions that were ultimately whittled down to six.

The creators were tasked with creating new, Alien-based stories that would appeal to fans of the franchise. They weren’t allowed to include any of the original characters, but they got to play with everything else. That means we’re getting back to the classic claustrophobia and tricksy Xenomorph shenanigans we know and love from the original. Check out the synopses for all six, here. The teaser certainly looks promising.

Each under 10 minutes long, the 40th anniversary shorts will be released every week from 29 March, on IGN. Maybe this will make up for that whole Prometheus thing.
