The final season of HBO's Game of Thrones is almost here

Malware is coming for those who pirate Game of Thrones

Just in case any of your were considering pirating the final season of Game of Thrones, I know you’re not, but just in case, beware, for the night is dark and full of trojans.

Kaspersky released a report this week on its findings for 2018, regarding just how much malware is hidden within the TV show torrents none of you are using. TLDR: it’s a lot, with Game of Thrones topping the charts for hiding the most number of malicious files that affected the most users. There weren’t even any new episodes of GoT in 2018, so that’s extra special.

According to the report, the top three “bait shows” are Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and Arrow, with the first and last episodes of each Game of Thrones season being the most virulent. Game of Thrones, alone, accounted for 17% of all infected content in 2018, hiding 33 types and 505 families of threats over just two years.

The final season of Game of Thrones will be unleashed on 15 April, but you are somewhat out of luck if you, like many of us, have spurned DStv in favour of Netflix, and don’t want to have to visit your parents every week. Although, your mom might feed you, so it’s probably worth it. Here’s the latest teaser:

I’m not going to tell you how to live your life, just remember: a Lannister always pays their subscription fees.
