Original Burnout Paradise servers are being taken down but you can still play at home

According to a recent announcement, on the official Burnout Paradise Facebook page, the servers for Criterion’s original Burnout Paradise will be shut down on 1 August.

This applies to the 2008 edition, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The remastered edition, from 2018, is still safe.

The original Burnout Paradise was super popular when it came out, almost 12 years ago, with its open-world, do anything you want attitude. For most of us, this translated into going fast and smashing things slow, creating destruction that was as satisfying as it was exquisite. With the multiplayer, you could smash your friends. However, it got a shiny new coat of anticlimactic paint last year, so it was really only a matter of time before they closed the original servers. Are any of you still playing the 2008 edition online? Are you, really?

If you are, you’ve got around about 100 days to get the classic smash ‘n race out of your system before it’s gone for good. The online bit, anyway.
