George R.R. Martin has taken to his blog to address rumours that he’s actually finished the last two books in A Song of Ice and Fire and to tell us how much money he would make if he actually had. Thanks?
no, THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING are not finished. DREAM is not even begun; I am not going to start writing volume seven until I finish volume six
The rumour was that HBO had asked Martin to sit on his completed novels until the series was over, because… reasons. As Martin points out, he and his publishers make “millions and millions of dollars” every time a new book in the series is published, so that wouldn’t have been a very good deal for them, and you’re all morons for thinking it was true. So there.
A Dance with Dragons, fifth in the book series, came out in 2011, then there was a prequel tome nobody asked for published in 2018, then the Nightflyers TV adaptation nobody watched, all of which took up time that could’ve been used finishing The Winds of Winter. Millions and millions of dollars aren’t very motivating, it seems, so I guess he must be human or something.
Anyway, maybe don’t feel so bad that you haven’t finished painting the kitchen yet.
