Such is the legacy of Game of Thrones, if you mention your show will be similar, that’s what people will ask you. 343 Industries transmedia boss, and human with best name in the business, Kiki Wolfkill said as much during a recent podcast discussion that included the Halo TV series.
Apparently, the Halo TV series will be similar to Game of Thrones in terms of scope and involves a bunch of political intrigue and complex relationships. Y’know, the sort of thing you associate most with Halo cut scenes and intro sequences. I imagine the TV series is emphasising the background political drama because the show can’t be about a guy mowing down the Flood every episode.
No incest planned at all for this show, I’ll say that. If you’re looking for that, you won’t find it here.
Wolfkill went on to say that adapting a game for TV or film isn’t impossible, it’s just challenging (so challenging that you’ll probably struggle to name a good one, like actually good, not Mortal Kombat good), and they’re trusting their Showtime partners to know what works best for television. Although, I would like to point out that it was television people that made some very questionable decisions about past series, including Game of Thrones.
The Halo TV series will run over 10, hour-long episodes and will begin production towards the end of the year.
