Robert Downey Jr. is going full Iron Man on climate change

Robert Downey Jr. took to the stage at Amazon’s premiere re: MARS (Machine Learning, Automation, Robotics, and Space) event to announce the launch of his new initiative that will seek to reverse the Earth’s carbon footprint trend in a decade. Bold move, Stark.

Climate change is a thing, caused by people, that’s threatening all sorts of natural systems across the globe; least of all avocados, but most of all people in the developing world. In an act of life imitating art, the Footprint Coalition will use robotics, AI, and technology in an effort to alter the Earth’s depressing trajectory, with Robert Downey Jr. at the helm.

According to the experts, the technology is there, but bureaucracy, intellectual property issues, and intergovernmental cooperation concerns are all getting in the way, so Downey wants to spend the next 11 years figuring out a way through all that.

I know it’s a kumbaya type dream. It’s a logistical clusterfuck

It’s actually pretty genius, deploying a charismatic and beloved movie star, known for portraying a character willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good, in the fight against climate change. I mean, I was pretty despondent about the whole thing, but now Iron Man’s involved I’ve perked right up.

If you’re even mildly interested, you can sign up for their newsletter and get an auto-response from RDJ himself. The Footprint Coalition will be up and running from April 2020.
