Nickelodeon announced today that it has greenlit a new SpongeBob spinoff series called Kamp Koral – and it’s okay to admit that deep down, we’re all bubble blowing babies.
Kamp Koral will be a prequel to the already iconic SpongeBob SquarePants series – the show will focus on a 10-year-old version of the spunky sponge and his misadventures, accompanied by his friends at the “craziest camp in the kelp forest”. Faithful to the main series, young SpongeBob will get up to all sorts of nonsensical shenanigans, including lighting fires underwater (because who cared about physics anyway), catching jellyfish, and swimming in Lake YuckyMuk, amongst other things.
The co-executive producers of the series are none other than SpongeBob producers Mark Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller. “SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the green light for Kamp Koral is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” said Ramsey Naito, head of Nickelodeon Animation.
The series will go into production this June and will have 13 episodes on release. Not so sure about who exactly will feature in the series other than SpongeBob himself, but we’re sure to find some loveable familiar faces once it airs.
