Google Stadia cloud gaming service

Google Stadia is and isn’t what we expected

First announced back in March with a lot of tech specs but no actual, real info about what it even is, Google’s new cloud-based game streaming service has now been more properly debuted ahead of E3 next week, confirming prices and catalogue and other important things that people would probably want to know.

So, what even is it? It’s a subscription service, and also not a subscription service. For $10 per month, users will have access to… one game, Destiny 2. More “free” games will be available over time, but here’s the thing – most games on Google Stadia are not included with the subscription, and will be sold at the same price as PC, Xbox, and PS4 games. You’re subscribing to Google datacentre servers, not the content on them. So, that’s innovative? Or something.

At launch, Google Stadia will support 30-something games from these publishers:

  • Bandai Namco – Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
  • Bethesda – DOOM Eternal, DOOM 2016, Rage 2, The Elder Scrolls Online, Wolfenstein: Youngblood
  • Bungie – Destiny 2
  • Capcom  TBD
  • Coatsink – Get Packed (Stadia exclusive)
  • Codemasters – GRID

  • Larian Studios – Baldur’s Gate 3
  • nWay Games – Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid
  • Rockstar Games – TBD
  • Sega – Football Manager
  • SNK – Samurai Shodown

  • 2K Games – NBA 2K, Borderlands 3
