J-horror fans can rejoice, because Netflix is getting a Ju-On series, and this is a heads-up for some of you; you might be traumatised by a Netflix thumbnail in the near future.
Ju-On, more commonly known to Western audiences as its 2004 remake, The Grudge, is a Japanese-American horror franchise made up of films, novels, and comics. The plot generally revolves around a house that is cursed because someone has died there in circumstances involving excessive rage. The spirits of the dead then attempt to rage-murder anyone that tries to live in, or just enter, the house, because ghost logic. Their misguided ghost-vengeance then creates more cursed venues and the cycle perpetuates itself.
There’s a lot of jump-scares, creepy children, and long hair.
It looks like the Netflix series will be taking a mockumentary or “found footage” type angle, judging by the little blurb on its landing page.
The J-horror classic franchise “Ju-On” was actually based on real events that occurred over four decades — and the truth is even more terrifying.
No it wasn’t, but I don’t blame you for trying.
The Ju-On series will be creeping onto our screens and making burping noises into our faces sometime around June 2020.
