You know it’s going to be a lovely day when director George Miller confirms three sequels to the post-apocalyptic, antipodean adventures we witnessed in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Speaking to Indiewire, Miller indicated that he still has a few Mad Max stories to tell, so there will be two sequels that focus on the perpetually parched Max as well as another that centers on Fury Road’s Furiosa. Miller appears confident that they will happen, given the success of Fury Road, once their little legal issue with Warner Bros. is dealt with.
Apparently, Warner Bros. agreed to pay Miller’s production company a bonus if Fury Road was completed under a certain budget and there was a dispute about whether the requirements were met, exacerbated by Warner’s planned merger with AT&T. Delays with the subsequent lawsuit are why we haven’t seen a sequel yet, but Miller suggests things are looking positive.
Don’t expect a sequel anytime soon, though, as Miller’s team has just gone into pre-production on an epic genie love story (yes), called Three Thousand Years of Longing, starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.
Fun Fact: In Fallout 4, Furiosa is one of the names you can choose for your character that Codsworth can actually say and it’s a delight hearing it, every time.
