What’s on at Gamescom 2019

The game industry’s other annual expo opens in Cologne, Germany next week, but those of us stuck at home can tune in to three pre-show streams from the event – including Gamescom Opening Night Live, Google Stadia Connect, and Inside Xbox.

GAMESCOM OPENING NIGHT LIVE

  • 19 August, 20:00 local time (Twitch)

This is the big one. Expect new game announcements, debuts, and presentations from publishers and developers including Microsoft, Activision, EA, Bethesda, Square Enix, Bungie, Ubisoft, and more, with host Geoff Keighley plus a guest appearance by Hideo Kojima.

GOOGLE STADIA CONNECT

  • 19 August, 19:00 local time (YouTube)

Google’s subscription service that also isn’t a subscription service launches in November, so this is the company’s opportunity to convince people to sign up and pay $10 per month for access to its datacentres, and then buy the games separately.

INSIDE XBOX

  • 19 August, 18:00 local time (Mixer)

Gears 5, Gears 5, Gears 5, and also Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, Halo: Infinite, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Minecraft Dungeons, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, The Outer Worlds, and probably some indie things and Project xCloud. And Gears 5.
